Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful, so we can improve them. Google Analytics sets cookies and records information such as the pages you visit, roughly where you are (town level, with your IP address anonymised), the device and browser you use, and whether you tapped a WhatsApp or email link. It does not identify you by name.

We only switch analytics on if you accept it. When you first visit, a small notice asks you to choose. If you choose "No thanks", no analytics cookies are set. You can change your mind at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage (a small value called hb_cookie_consent), which is not a tracking cookie.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers. Google Fonts and the embedded Google Map on the Coverage and Contact pages are loaded from Google, which may record your IP address as part of serving them.

When you contact us

If you message us on WhatsApp or email, we keep your name, contact details and what you tell us about your business so we can reply, carry out a free audit or plan session if you ask for one, and follow up. We use this on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries and, if you become a client, to perform our contract with you. We don't add you to a mailing list without asking.

WhatsApp messages are handled by WhatsApp (Meta) under its own privacy policy. Email is handled by our email provider. We keep enquiry details for up to two years after our last contact, unless you become a client, in which case we keep records for the duration of our work together and six years afterwards for accounting purposes.

Free audits and plan sessions

To produce a Free Marketing Audit we look at publicly available information about your business: your Google, Bing and Apple listings, directory entries, reviews and your website, using tools such as Local Falcon and BrightLocal. We don't need any logins for this. We may use AI tools (including Anthropic's Claude) to help analyse the data and draft the report; the report is always checked by a person before it is sent to you. Audit data is kept with your enquiry details as described above.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email info@hummingbird.co.uk and we'll respond within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
